The fantastic Lin-Manuel Miranda has posted a video of him and Tommy Kail sitting backstage at the Beacon Theatre Sunday night, writing the words to Neil’s closing “rap-up”, including footage of Neil running through the lyrics.

If you missed the show, check out Neil’s opening number, Neil and Hugh Jackman’s ‘Host-off‘, the cast of ‘Company’ performing Side By Side, 30 seconds of Spiderman jokes, and that closing rap number in full.

Neil’s Tony Awards hosting triumph

By Rach | Published Mon Jun-13-11 -

Neil did a few interviews in the run up to the Tonys – he told Access Hollywood his hosting game plan, talked to PopEater about a little bit of everything, and joined Ryan Seacrest on Thursday. He also talked to The Hollywood Reporter and TV Guide about what to expect on the night, Time Out New York put him in their hot seat, and The Daily Beast talked to him about a little bit of everything.

After the event last night, reviews are understandably everywhere! The Daily Beast has posted their 10 Buzziest Moments, and if you visit NYMag.com you can see a video of Neil’s closing number – a recap rap of the ceremony’s highlights, with a transcript, as well as their Top 5 Most Notable Moments. Entertainment Weekly is running a poll to see what we thought of him as host, and Broadway.com counts down the Top 5 Neil Patrick Harris Tony Moments. Eonline recaps the ceremony and includes a full list of winners, while Zap2it includes lyrics from the opening number and some pictures in their review.

We’ve filled our gallery with over 100 pictures from the night, so be sure to check those out!

Pre-Tonys news round up

By Rach | Published Wed Jun-8-11 -

Neil will be hosting the 65th Annual Tony Awards this coming Sunday, June 12th, and some details have started to emerge about the performances that can be expected on the night. Neil will be taking part in a performance from April’s limited run revival of Company ahead of its cinema release on June 15, and according to BroadwayWorld.com (the linked article contains detailed information about who will be performing what on the night, so if you prefer surprises, don’t click!) “a highly theatrical number performed by Neil Patrick Harris and created by David Javerbaum will open the telecast”.

Neil will be appearing on The View and The Late Show with David Letterman this Thursday to promote the show.

There’s a second promo here. The 2011 Tony Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday from 8.00pm-11.00pm.

Finally, in non-Tonys news, Neil has been nominated in the first annual Critics’ Choice Awards in the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category, for his role as Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother. The awards will air on ReelzChannel on June 22nd, and Variety has the full list of nominees.

First look at Neil in ‘Company’

By Rach | Published Mon May-16-11 -

If you weren’t lucky enough to be at Avery Fisher Hall to see Company last month, you can now see a first look clip of the cinematic release. The New York Philharmonic YouTube has posted a video of the cast performing Side By Side. Tickets are now on sale for your chance to catch this in movie theaters, starting June 15th (Neil’s birthday).

The New York Philharmonic, EMK Productions and Screenvision are proud to present Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” in movie theatres across the nation. The production was shot in early April as part of the Philharmonic’s spring gala. Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) lead an all-star cast which included Patti LuPone, Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report), Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Craig Bierko and Martha Plimpton. Company’s plot revolves around Bobby (a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship, let alone marriage), the five married couples who are his best friends, and his three girlfriends. It’s a concept musical composed of short vignettes linked by a celebration for Bobby’s 35th birthday.

For details on where you can catch the show, and to purchase tickets, visit Screenvision in the USA or Cineplex if you’re in Canada.

And if you hadn’t already heard, further to the rumour last week that Neil would be hosting this year’s Tony Awards, it’s true, and Neil confirmed it in a tweet last week. The ceremony takes place at the Beacon Theater in New York on June 12, and will be broadcast live on CBS (8/7c, 8pm time delay on the West Coast).

New Hollywood Reporter interview with Neil

By Rach | Published Fri Aug-20-10 -

The Hollywood Reporter talked to Neil in the last few days, and published a nice interview with him yesterday. They talk a little about the twins, Glee, HIMYM and the Emmys, amongst other things.

The Hollywood Reporter: With projects in film, TV and on the stage, you’ve had a very industrious year. How does it feel to double your career Emmy nominations in one fell swoop?
Harris: I have three times as much of a chance to lose, so I’m very excited. It’s been a busy year, but I’m happy to be riding the “Glee” train. In a normal world, I would not be able to do half the things I did this year, but for some reason everything fit in like a weird game of Tetris.

THR: Besides the recent news that you and your partner David Burtka are expecting twins in the fall, what other plans do you have for staying busy? Perhaps a return to “Glee”?
Harris: We just started shooting Season 6 of “Mother,” so my focus is on that well-tailored suit of a role. Barney is on a quest to find his real dad. Which I think may give us some answers as to why Barney is the way he is. As for “Glee,” Ryan Murphy mentioned something at the TCA, but I’ve heard nothing concrete about it. It’s great what “Glee” is able to do each week. It was a really exhausting episode to film, but fun too.

THR: So there’s no truth to the rumors that you may be taking a break from Hollywood?
Harris: No, not at all. It’s a virtual impossibility at the moment. I have two more seasons for sure on “Mother” and a bunch of things pending or already in the can. I love the business and have worked steadily to stand where I am. I have no interest in backing off now.

TIME gala roundup & Neil’s picks for AfterElton Hot 100

By Rach | Published Fri May-7-10 -

The New York Observer was at Time’s 100 Most Influential People gala on Tuesday, and has an article up comprised of brief snippets from the night. Here’s what they had to say about Neil:

“I’m not good at small talk at all,” said Neil Patrick Harris, one of Time‘s influencers. “It will probably be me huddled in a corner with my friend Kate who’s here going ‘Ooh look at that guy, Ooh look at that guy.’”

We asked Mr. Harris about his sphere of influence.

“My sphere of influence. I try to angle myself with as many demographics as I can. The stoner kids can appreciate the Harold and Kumar. The mainstream cats can like How I Met Your Mother. I am able to do the Smurfs movie to appease everyone, and, you know, Regis and Kelly to keep the housewives involved.”

You can read the rest of the article here.

After winning last year’s AfterElton Hot 100, as well as their Man of the Decade poll, Neil has joined in by choosing his own top 10 picks for this year’s list. Voting for this year’s Hot 100 closes tonight – you can get your votes in here, though please note that voting is limited to gay and bisexual men. “After all, the whole point of the AfterElton.com Hot 100 is to tell the world who we gay and bisexual men think are sexy! But since we are interested in knowing what you think, please feel free to use the comments to tell us who your choices would be.” Results will be published on May 17th.

Neil will not be hosting the Emmys or the Tonys this year – in this brief interview with NYMag he reveals that his Smurf commitments will prevent him from hosting the Tonys again, though he’s sure they’ll get somebody great to do the job.

Couldn’t he just jump in for one production number, like he did at the Oscars? “I’ve hosted a lot this last year,” said Harris, laughing. “I think sitting back and letting others take the reins would be not a terrible idea.”

And Jimmy Fallon has been announced as this year’s host for the Emmys, which Neil told Access Hollywood is the perfect choice.

β€œThat’s a perfect choice!” Neil told Access Hollywood when we broke the news to him that Jimmy had been named host of the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards when we caught up with him at the 2010 Time 100 Gala in New York on Tuesday night.

β€œThat is actually who I thought they would choose,” Neil continued. β€œHe’s perfect, I think he’ll be just great.”

Watch his full interview with Access Hollywood at the TIME Gala here.

Finally, for those wondering, Neil didn’t progress to the finals of Celebrity Jeopardy – his semifinal was won by Cheech Marin. Congrats to Neil for making it so far and winning $100,000 for Food On Foot.
