Stage Tube has a video of Neil on the Red Carpet of the Smith Center opening a couple of weeks ago. The opening will air as a PBS special sometime in the future, and you can catch a preview of the gala below.

Neil is set to host the opening gala for the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday March 10.

Only a stage built by an entire community could hold the star power that will officially open The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on March 10. An unprecedented line-up of 24 artists from the worlds of music, television, stage and screen will come together for a one-of-a-kind night of entertainment as The Smith Center officially ushers in a new era in Las Vegas.

The Smith Center’s Opening Celebration will take place Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 7:00pm. Actor Neil Patrick Harris will host the celebration which will feature performances by Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson; country artists Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris and Martina McBride; singer songwriter Carol King; trumpeter Arturo Sandoval; violinist Joshua Bell; gospel great Mavis Staples; Train lead singer Pat Monahan; and American Ballet Theater dancers Marcello Gomes and Luciana Paris.

Neil has been added to the list of presenters for this year’s Grammy awards. The ceremony takes place at the Staples Center this coming Sunday, February 13th, and will be broadcast live on CBS from 8pm til 11.30pm.

Eight-time GRAMMY^® winner, current nominee, and 2011 MusiCares^® Person of the Year Barbra Streisand will appear in a rare performance on the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards^® (www.grammy.com), and three-time GRAMMY winner Kris Kristofferson will introduce Streisand’s performance. Neil has been announced as one of the celebs set to attend the People’s Choice awards next Wednesday, January 5th. The awards take place at the Nokia Theater in LA and will be broadcast live on CBS.

The Trevor Project have announced that Neil will be joining a number of star names for at this year’s Trevor LIVE event. Neil will be performing a duet with James Marsden at the event, which takes place Sunday, December 5th at the Hollywood Palladium.

Hollywood’s most talented and irreverent stars will gather at the Hollywood Palladium to celebrate “Trevor LIVE”, the annual show benefitting The Trevor Project on Sunday, December 5, 2010. Recognizing the suicide prevention efforts of community leaders, the Trevor Life Award honoree is Kathy Griffin, and Trevor Hope Award honoree is Levi Strauss & Co., with guest performances by Sarah Silverman, Wayne Brady, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel, Neil Patrick Harris and James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Telly Leung, The Dan Band, and Tracie Thoms. This one-of-a-kind show is under the guidance of Special Guest Producing Director Adam Shankman, with Special Guest Musical Director Ricky Minor, Special Guest Choreographer Mia Michaels, and Special Guest Script Writers Carol Liefer and Bruce Vilanch.

Despite Tweeting to the contrary following rumours earlier in the week, Neil did indeed perform the opening number at tonight’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards. He technically didn’t lie, as Martin Short was nowhere to be seen; though it’s thought that Mr Short was supposed to join him but a recent family emergency kept him away.

Neil presented Joss Whedon with the Vanguard Award for technology and new media at last night’s 21st Annual Producers Guild of America Awards.

Neil Patrick Harris presented the Vanguard Award for technology and new media to writer-director-producer Joss Whedon, calling him “perhaps the only pioneer in the field of sing-along blogs,” a reference to “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along blog,” on which they collaborated.

“Joss Whedon doesn’t just build stories, he builds entire universes,” Harris said, admitting that he had just begun to work on Internet projects. Whedon likened the award to Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize — “it’s (for) what you’re going to do.”
