Golden Globes roundup

If you hadn’t already heard, at last night’s 67th Annual Golden Globes ceremony, Neil lost the award for Best Supporting Actor to Dexter’s John Lithgow. Neil and John were nominated alongside Lost’s Michael Emerson, Jeremy Piven from Entourage and William Hurt for Damages in a difficult category which combined drama and comedy.

We’ve been updating the gallery all night with pictures from the red carpet, the show itself, the press room and the Fox afterparty which Neil and David attended.

Neil talked to Ryan Seacrest for E! on the red carpet, they discussed American Idol, Neil directing tonight’s episode of HIMYM, and the Hollywood choice of umbrellas! He also catches up with TV Guide Network’s Carrie Ann Inaba, and the Insider talks to a number of stars – skip to 2:07 of this video to see Neil talk to Niecy Nash.

Before the ceremony, Neil said that he couldn’t wait to see host Ricky Gervais “do his thing. He was such a great choice to host that show. It’s a rough crowd, everyone’s at big tables talking to each other the whole night and drinking. It’s pretty raucous. I think they chose the perfect guy to host it. He’ll be masterful in his lion tamer’s skills.” He also commented that “Ricky would probably tease me about my hosting duties on other awards shows. He’s absolutely hilarious. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do.”

Neil to present at Golden Globes

Neil will join Christina Aguilera, Tom Hanks, and previously announced presenters including Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry and Mel Gibson, in presenting an award at the 67th Annual Golden Globes.

The Golden Globes will be telecast live on NBC, January 17th. The awards will be broadcast simultaneously coast-to-coast, 5 to 8 pm PT, 8 to 11 pm ET.

Neil is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category.

2009 Recap – The year of NPH!

First, the upcoming: Neil will be taking part in Days 17 and 18 of the SF Sketchfest. On January 30th at 8pm, and January 31st at 7pm, Neil will be appearing in “Celebrity Autobiography” alongside Rachel Dratch, Lesley Ann Warren, Fred Willard and more. Tickets are $35 for the event, taking place at Cobb’s Comedy Club in San Francisco, California, and you can purchase them here.

FOX today released their American Idol schedule for season 9. The show kicks off on Tuesday January 12th, in Boston. Neil sat in on the auditions in Dallas, which are set to air Tuesday, Jan. 26 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

The year is almost over and Neil is appearing on “best of” lists all over the place, including People magazine’s most intriguing people of the year, and places him at #2 on Buddy TV’s Breakout Star of 2009 list.

His Emmy’s hosting gig makes AOL TV’s Top Moments of 2009, Canada.com list him on their 2009 “Naughty and Nice” list, there’s an Honourble Mention on AfterElton’s 2009 Visibility Awards in the Theatrical Event category, for his Tony’s hosting gig. And for HIMYM, he makes TV Guide’s 25 Best Performances of the Year.

Reacting to his Golden Globe nod, Neil joked that he’d like a gift from CBS. “Maybe this year CBS or Fox will give me a new car. Didn’t they do that with all the ‘Will & Grace‘ people once? Didn’t they give them all Miatas for getting nominations or something? One can dream!”

Finally, Advocate.com has a little more from Neil’s acceptance speech at the Trevor Project event back on December 5th.

SNL, Golden Globes

So the results are out, and the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (the category being touted as NPH vs HBO) was awarded to John Adams star Tom Wilkinson. We’ve added a few arrivals photos to the gallery – there aren’t as many as you might usually expect from an event like this due to SNL delaying Neil’s arrival, with him only arriving a few minutes before the show was due to begin!

On the subject of SNL, we’ve added the transition cards to the gallery, with more HD caps of the show coming later tonight. And if you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out this playlist on our YouTube channel to see all of Neil’s parts!

SNL Episode Recap

TV Guide have posted a detailed recap of last night’s show. It includes a couple of video clips, although (not surprisingly) these are only viewable within the United States. EW has posted some contrasting reviews which can be read here and here (both articles feature hulu clips).

He may think his chances to win are “nil” but don’t forget to check out tonight’s Golden Globe Awards where Neil is nominated for Best Supporting Actor. EW and TWoP agree that Neil should win although they both seem to think the award will go to Tom Wilkinson. What, not Jeremy Piven?

MTV interview pre Golden Globes

MTV caught up with Neil during rehearsals for tomorrow’s Saturday Night Live to discuss this weekend’s Golden Globe awards. He comments on the “crazy category” he’s been nominated in and that his chances of winning are “nil”.

He also discusses how excited he is to finally be hosting SNL.

Golden Globes reaction

Entertainment Tonight talks to Neil about his Golden Globes nomination – how he feels about it, how he found out about it, and what he thinks of his competition.

E!Online have posted a clip from tomorrow night’s HIMYM, and without spoiling what he’s doing – it’s almost a minute of mostly Barney doing what Neil does best. This week’s Big Bang Theory/HIMYM preview is also up on YouTube now.

There are also some Dr Horrible DVD reviews starting to appear around the web. Check out the first two, from Newteevee and CliqueClack, and if you haven’t yet pre-ordered the CD or DVD, they’re both due for release this week so now is a good time! Both are retailing at $9.99 on Amazon.com.

Golden Globes Nomination

The nominees were announced today for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, to be held on January 11th 2009. Neil has been nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. He’s up against Dennis Leary for “Recount”, Blair Underwood for “In Treatment”, Tom Wilkinson for “John Adams” and once again, Jeremy Piven for “Entourage”.

The ceremony will air live on NBC at 8.00pm EST.
