News Roundup
05.31.10

Neil recently pledged his support after a fire destroyed an Albuquerque theatre where he once performed. Neil talked to Action 7 News about the disaster, and you can see a short interview with his brother Brian here.

“My brother Brian let me know about it and I looked it up online and I was shocked,” Harris told Action 7 News by phone. “I was John Darling in the production of ‘Peter Pan’ that they did. It was one of the first bigger scale things that I had ever done,” said Harris. Harris said he’s willing to increase awareness and help out however he can to keep this community theater from closing the curtain.”It’s a hard industry to maintain,” said Harris. “You know, community theatre is tough. It’s scrappy, and so to lose a lot of your resources in one fell swoop is a big blow.”

If you want to help out, the theatre will soon be accepting donations at their website, musicaltheatersw.com.

It has now been confirmed that Neil is voicing the character of Lou in Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. You can hear him briefly in the trailer at 0.40 and 0.58. The movie is due for release July 30 this year.

Finally, Neil is due to guest host Live with Regis & Kelly with Kelly Ripa next Monday, June 7th.

More “Glee” interviews
05.19.10

Now that the episode has aired, Tim Stack of EW’s PopWatch has posted an interview conducted with Neil during the filming of the episode, and it contains mild spoilers. They talk about how Neil got the gig on Glee, working with Joss, and his fears for the future of Dr Horrible.

There’s also a video interview on MTV.com, conducted on the red carpet at TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people gala a week or two back.

If you didn’t see the episode, you can catch it on Hulu if you’re in the US. In the UK, Dream On will air on E4 this coming Monday (May 24th) at 9pm, repeated throughout the week, and on Channel 4 next Friday (May 28th) at 8pm for those of you without digital. “Dream On” is the only one of Neil’s songs from the episode that has an official studio version, which you can buy on iTunes or here on Amazon (coming soon), and features on the Volume 3: Showstoppers soundtrack album, which is out now.

In non-Glee news, Stand Up To Cancer today announced that following their September 2008 telethon, there will be another this year, to be broadcast on September 10th. More details will be announced as the date approaches, and Neil may not be involved, but he is a strong supporter of their work so we’re keen to publicise their event here.

Viewers outside the United States, or watching from within Maine, Massachusetts, South Carolina or Alabama will not trigger a donation – for more information, click here. There is also a 2 minute behind the scenes video on the website, but thanks to the people at Listerine, we’ve got that video for you to watch below. Celebrity Jeopardy & Video Update
04.28.10

As previously posted, Neil will be appearing in the semi-final of Celebrity Jeopardy against Cheech Marin and Kaczmarek. We can now confirm that their semi-final will be the third, airing next Wednesday, May 5th. Neil will once again be playing for Food On Foot – the winner will receive $1m for their charity, and the second and third placed players will receive $250,000 and $100,000 respectively. All of the semi finalists will take away $50,000 for their charity.

ReelzChannel talked to Neil recently about gameshows, and how he prepared for playing blind in Beastly. You can watch the video here. And last week, Neil was in the audience when Jesse Tyler Ferguson was at the Bravo Clubhouse for Watch What Happens: Live, and Andy Cohen pulled him out for a quick chat. You can watch that here.

Celebrity Jeopardy Semi Finals
04.18.10

In the episode that aired on Thursday, Neil won his quarter-final match of Celebrity Jeopardy, beating Rebecca Lobo and Hill Harper. The semi-finals taped yesterday in Culver City, California. It would appear that Neil will this time be playing against comedian Cheech Marin and actress Jane Kaczmarek. The three semi-final episodes will be airing May 3rd-5th, and should Neil have progressed to the finals, those episodes will air on May 6th and 7th.

We’ll keep you up to date as soon as we know which of the semi-finals will be Neil’s episode.

Neil defends Vanessa Hudgens casting
04.13.10

OnTheRedCarpet.com caught up with Neil in a short video interview at the Academy of Magical Arts awards on Sunday.

Actor Neil Patrick Harris is directing a special production of Rent at the Hollywood Bowl this summer. He’s no stranger to the stage or the show, (he played Mark Cohen in the 2nd National Tour), but he’s taken some flak recently for casting High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens for the lead role of Mimi.

On The Red Carpet caught up with Harris, who defended his decision, “Vanessa is awesome. She’s a friend. I asked her to come in and sing to make sure she had the chops for it. And she was very committed and seemed great.”

io9.com reports that the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is now in development; no official word on if Neil will return as Steve the Monkey just yet.

Neil’s episode of Celebrity Jeopardy, in which he competes against CSI New York’s Hill Harper and former basketball player Rebecca Lobo, will air this coming Thursday, April 15th at 7pm PST on ABC-TV. Visit the show’s website for a short video interview with him. Neil was playing on behalf of Food on Foot.

Finally, NYMag’s Vulture section has read the script for A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. Mild plot spoilers are in the article, so if you don’t want to know, suffice it to say that the script confirms that Neil has a part to play.

Glee, Celebrity Jeopardy, Harold & Kumar 3
03.15.10

I’ve added a Glee page to the television appearances section of the site. More and more spoilers for Neil’s Glee appearance are being released, but I understand that a lot of people might want to remain as unspoiled as possible. So we’ll update all Glee spoilers here, to give you the choice of reading it or not. We’ll continue to let you know here when that page has been updated, though.

Neil recorded an episode of Celebrity Jeopardy late last week, competing against CSI New York’s Hill Harper and former basketball player Rebecca Lobo. We’ll keep you updated with when that will air.

John Cho talked with Collider about the in-development third movie in the Harold & Kumar series:

The good news for fans of the Harold and Kumar series is the sequel is still moving forward and Cho said the plan is to film this June!  He said they’re currently figuring out who will direct the third installment and Neil Patrick Harris is supposed to be in it.  He said the film picks up a few years after the second film and it’s a legitimate holiday movie.

Neil Patrick Harris suits up
01.24.10

In a new Los Angeles Times article, Neil discusses HIMYM, suits and his own personal style.

“I’m a jeans and T-shirt kind of guy,” he said in a recent interview. “I was intimidated by high-end fashion growing up, and I never really bought into all the expensive things they were hawking in the fashion magazines.

“I didn’t know what to make of it. . . . I’d go into Fred Segal and panic at all the $6,000 shirts. I’d just as soon go to H&M and buy a similar shirt for $70.”

Even so, as a result of playing the show’s well-clad cad, Harris has had the luxury of engaging in some sartorial soul-searching. “Because the wardrobe department adds four or five new suits to Barney’s wardrobe each season, I’ve had the chance to try on just about every brand of suit on the market,” he said.

“That’s how I found that certain brands just fit my body type well. Dolce & Gabbana uses thinner fabrics and that makes them more comfortable for me — that’s another thing I’ve learned from” the show.

Harris, who doesn’t rely on a personal stylist to dress him for talk show appearances and red carpets, has even borrowed from the show’s wardrobe on occasion. “That’s one of the great things about being a guy,” he said. “You can just throw on a suit.”

And when pressed, he’ll admit he can see the wisdom of spending good money on denim (he favors Levi’s and Hudson) and underwear — “the stuff you wear all the time,” he said. He shops for clothes at Barneys CO-OP (“the one at the Grove is pretty good, but I’m usually in New York”). He’s partial to shades of blue and gray, shuns bold patterns and confesses a peculiar addiction to V-neck T-shirts.

“Slate gray is my favorite color,” he said. “I probably have 15 gray short-sleeve V-neck T-shirts in my house. Every time I go to buy clothes, I seem to end up with two more. I’ve got dark gray, darker gray, light gray, lighter gray, [and] darker blue-gray.”

You can read the rest of the interview at the LA Times website, and we’ve added the photoshoot pictures to the gallery, along with some pictures of Neil on the phones at the Hope for Haiti Now telethon on Friday night. The two-hour telethon raised $57m. You can continue to donate by phone, text, or via the Hope for Haiti website for the next six months.

Neil also attended the new Pee Wee Herman show at LA’s Club Nokia last week, and talked to TheStar.com about the show, and the chances of Dr Horrible 2.

The night I attended, I happened to spot How I Met Your Mother‘s Neil Patrick Harris in the audience, and was able to ask him what he thought of the show during an HIMYM set visit the next day.

He essentially agreed with me, having been both mildly entertained and somewhat disappointed with how much of it was recycled. It needs, we concur, more new gags and characters, along the lines of the featured floating puppet “Sham-Wow,” later accidentally deep-fried and resurrected as a ghost.

Harris, a song-and-dance stage star himself, hinted at an upcoming guest appearance on Glee, likely to be directed by Joss Whedon, for whom he also starred in the musical web hit Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog.

Harris is as much in the dark as anyone about the likelihood of a Horrible sequel. “I keep sort of asking (Whedon) if it’s gonna happen, if there’s gonna be any kind of Dr. Horrible-ness,” he says. “They’re anxious to do it, but scheduling becomes the tricky issue.”

Neil joins the Trevor Project Board Of Directors
01.13.10

After being selected as The Trevor Project‘s 2009 Trevor Life Award honouree, Neil has been elected to the board of directors, along with writer, producer and director Dustin Lance Black. The Trevor Project is “the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.”

“I’ve been a longtime supporter of The Trevor Project, and I’m excited to become even more actively involved in raising awareness of its unique and vital mission,” said Neil Patrick Harris. “I hope that my involvement with The Trevor Project will help bring attention to the need for effective crisis and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth nationwide.”

“Because Dustin Lance Black and Neil Patrick Harris have already demonstrated their tireless commitment to LGBTQ youth and The Trevor Project, we are thrilled to welcome them to our leadership team,” said Charles Robbins, executive director and CEO, The Trevor Project. “As prominent members of the entertainment community, they will certainly help raise awareness about The Trevor Project’s programs and their insight will be invaluable as we work to empower young people with the crisis intervention skills and suicide prevention resources they need.”
