Pre-Tonys news round up

By Rach | Published Wed Jun-8-11 -

Neil will be hosting the 65th Annual Tony Awards this coming Sunday, June 12th, and some details have started to emerge about the performances that can be expected on the night. Neil will be taking part in a performance from April’s limited run revival of Company ahead of its cinema release on June 15, and according to BroadwayWorld.com (the linked article contains detailed information about who will be performing what on the night, so if you prefer surprises, don’t click!) “a highly theatrical number performed by Neil Patrick Harris and created by David Javerbaum will open the telecast”.

Neil will be appearing on The View and The Late Show with David Letterman this Thursday to promote the show.

There’s a second promo here. The 2011 Tony Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday from 8.00pm-11.00pm.

Finally, in non-Tonys news, Neil has been nominated in the first annual Critics’ Choice Awards in the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category, for his role as Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother. The awards will air on ReelzChannel on June 22nd, and Variety has the full list of nominees.

By Rach | Published Fri Nov-19-10 -

The Trevor Project have announced that Neil will be joining a number of star names for at this year’s Trevor LIVE event. Neil will be performing a duet with James Marsden at the event, which takes place Sunday, December 5th at the Hollywood Palladium.

Hollywood’s most talented and irreverent stars will gather at the Hollywood Palladium to celebrate “Trevor LIVE”, the annual show benefitting The Trevor Project on Sunday, December 5, 2010. Recognizing the suicide prevention efforts of community leaders, the Trevor Life Award honoree is Kathy Griffin, and Trevor Hope Award honoree is Levi Strauss & Co., with guest performances by Sarah Silverman, Wayne Brady, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel, Neil Patrick Harris and James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Telly Leung, The Dan Band, and Tracie Thoms. This one-of-a-kind show is under the guidance of Special Guest Producing Director Adam Shankman, with Special Guest Musical Director Ricky Minor, Special Guest Choreographer Mia Michaels, and Special Guest Script Writers Carol Liefer and Bruce Vilanch.

“Trevor LIVE closes an historic year for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning community as the tragic losses of young people have caused a resounding national outcry calling for an end to the bullying aimed at LGBTQ young people,” said Charles Robbins, Executive Director of The Trevor Project. “This event honors vanguards Kathy Griffin and Levi Strauss & Co. who are helping to usher in positive cultural change in this country. Their contributions to the LGBTQ community have always been significant, but especially recently, when young people looking for role models needed them, Kathy Griffin and Levi Strauss & Co. made their voices heard.”

Neil was the Trevor Life Award Honoree at last year’s event, and was elected to the board of directors earlier this year. Many ticket levels are already sold out but $100 tickets for the show only are still available, as well as some Platinum, Gold and Silver tickets. Visit http://bit.ly/TrevorLIVEtickets for details on what tickets are left and how to buy them.

Fashion’s Night Out 2010

By Rach | Published Wed Sep-1-10 -

Neil is set to host a one-hour fashion special on CBS, Tuesday September 14, 10/9c. The special will focus on year two of Fashion’s Night Out, including “Fashion’s Night Out: The Show”, taking place on September 7, and the Fashion’s Night Out event itself, taking place in New York on September 10th.

Oscar de la Renta, Diane Von Furstenberg, Justin Timberlake, Tory Burch and Anna Wintour will be among the many fashion industry stars featured in FASHION’S NIGHT OUT 2010, a one-hour primetime special that takes viewers behind the scenes of the world’s largest fashion celebration, to be broadcast Tuesday, Sept. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.  The special will be hosted by Emmy Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris, star of the CBS comedy series, “How I Met Your Mother.”

Looking beyond the glamour to the real-life implications at stake, the show will also focus on individuals working in all parts of the industry for whom the vibrancy of the fashion business is a question of economic survival — from Wintour’s initial meetings in Paris with her international editors to discuss plans for this year’s event to interviews with sales managers at the Gap about how Fashion’s Night Out benefits the retail industry.

For more information on Fashion’s Night Out 2010, visit their official site at cbs.com/specials/fashions_night_out.

Looking back at the Emmys, a number of websites/networks interviewed Neil on the red carpet – Ryan Seacrest for E!, Access Hollywood, NBC, Entertainemnt Weekly and TV Guide.

Final point for tonight, something which you might already have noticed – we’ve given the site a redesign!

Call Barney Stinson at 1-877-987-6401

By Rach | Published Mon Feb-8-10 -

If you were watching the Superbowl last night, you will have seen Barney Stinson inviting you to call him. If you called the number during the Superbowl, you’ll have heard Neil’s voice and this recorded message:

“That, Lebron, is how you shoot a free throw. Hey, Barney Stinson speaking. A recording? No, this is really me! Anyway, glad you called ’cause you sound really special. Let’s get to know each other. What are your hobbies? Oh my god, I like that too! Wow, I’m really feeling a connection here. You know, I never do this but what the heck. Let’s meet up at MacLaren’s Bar at oh, say, 3:45 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, 2016. I can’t wait to meet you. I love you.”

It has been pointed out by a few people that there are some inaccuracies in the message – Lebron James & free throw is a basketball term, and Monday October 12th 2016 is a Wednesday. Based on Barney’s previous history – his “dear resident” letter from Ted Mosby, Architect for one – I’d say both of these things are on purpose, and I’d guess it’s not the first time Barney has used this message! Expect a reference to this in tonight’s last new episode of HIMYM before the Winter Olympics. ETA: People have mentioned that everybody who called got a different random date. So it was probably incorrect on purpose because it was randomized.

You can listen to a recording of the message here.

Quickfire News Roundup

By Rach | Published Fri Feb-5-10 -

Now for the news roundup I promised:

  • Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly reports that CBS has signed off on Neil’s guest appearance on FOX’s Glee. The only remaining hurdle is making sure that it can fit into Neil’s already hectic schedule!
  • Popeater is reporting that Neil is being lined up to star in a new revival of “Barnum” on Broadway. Neil has talked many times about his interest in that role, though he has stated that he’s still too young for it. This new report reveals that Neil is the producer’s “only choice” – what isn’t clear, however, is the timescale in question. It’s likely this won’t be taking place imminently, but simply that whenever it does, Neil is a shoe-in for the part.
  • The Superbowl is on CBS this year (this coming Sunday, Feb 7) and there’s some HIMYM related cross-promotion happening on Twitter. Craig and Carter go into a little more detail in this interview from the time of the 100th episode promotion.
  • The Best and the Brightest, which Neil shot this summer, is now on Twitter and you can become a fan on Facebook. They’re calling it a “social media explosion” and they’ve been posting pictures and holding contests so far, so check them out!

Finally, there’s a lot of talk in the media that Neil should replace Simon Cowell as a full time judge on American Idol when he leaves at the end of this season. His guest stint was loved by the critics, but what do you think about him taking on the role full time? I think that without Simon, and knowing that Neil is good friends with both Ellen and Kara, there might not be enough differences of opinion to keep it interesting. And that’s before you even think about working it into his schedule, especially now with the news that HIMYM has been renewed for season 6.

Words of Wisdom

“Dear Resident, The time we spent together, however long it was, meant the world to me. I would love to see you again but unfortunately I cannot. You see, I am a ghost. I can only materialize once every decade, on the anniversary of my death. I chose to spend my one day among the living with you, sweet resident. Perhaps we will meet again, in another decade--provided you keep your figure. Until then, all my love from the beyond, Barney.”
