The New York Observer was at Time’s 100 Most Influential People gala on Tuesday, and has an article up comprised of brief snippets from the night. Here’s what they had to say about Neil:
“I’m not good at small talk at all,” said Neil Patrick Harris, one of Time‘s influencers. “It will probably be me huddled in a corner with my friend Kate who’s here going ‘Ooh look at that guy, Ooh look at that guy.’”
We asked Mr. Harris about his sphere of influence.
“My sphere of influence. I try to angle myself with as many demographics as I can. The stoner kids can appreciate the Harold and Kumar. The mainstream cats can like How I Met Your Mother. I am able to do the Smurfs movie to appease everyone, and, you know, Regis and Kelly to keep the housewives involved.”

After winning last year’s AfterElton Hot 100, as well as their Man of the Decade poll, Neil has joined in by choosing his own top 10 picks for this year’s list. Voting for this year’s Hot 100 closes tonight – you can get your votes in here, though please note that voting is limited to gay and bisexual men. “After all, the whole point of the AfterElton.com Hot 100 is to tell the world who we gay and bisexual men think are sexy! But since we are interested in knowing what you think, please feel free to use the comments to tell us who your choices would be.” Results will be published on May 17th.
Neil will not be hosting the Emmys or the Tonys this year – in this brief interview with NYMag he reveals that his Smurf commitments will prevent him from hosting the Tonys again, though he’s sure they’ll get somebody great to do the job.
Couldn’t he just jump in for one production number, like he did at the Oscars? “I’ve hosted a lot this last year,” said Harris, laughing. “I think sitting back and letting others take the reins would be not a terrible idea.”
And Jimmy Fallon has been announced as this year’s host for the Emmys, which Neil told Access Hollywood is the perfect choice.
“That’s a perfect choice!” Neil told Access Hollywood when we broke the news to him that Jimmy had been named host of the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards when we caught up with him at the 2010 Time 100 Gala in New York on Tuesday night.
“That is actually who I thought they would choose,” Neil continued. “He’s perfect, I think he’ll be just great.”

Finally, for those wondering, Neil didn’t progress to the finals of Celebrity Jeopardy – his semifinal was won by Cheech Marin. Congrats to Neil for making it so far and winning $100,000 for Food On Foot.
