Rock of the Dead creator interview

By Rach | Published Wed Sep-22-10 -

GameRant.com have published an interview with Bryan Jury, creator of Rock of the Dead. He had some interesting things to say about securing Neil and Felicia Day as voice talent for the game.

GR: Felicia Day and Neil Patrick Harris are akin to gods within the geek world. How did you get the opportunity to work with them and was it a good experience?
Bryan Jury: If it’s not completely apparent with their casting, we’re HUGE Dr. Horrible fans. I’m an absolute nerd when it comes to Joss Whedon in general. We’re a pretty small independent studio, but we’ve been able to work with some pretty good voice talent in our games. Our last game, Real Heroes: Firefighter, has James Marsters, Jaime Kennedy and Jenette Goldstein (Vazquez from Aliens) among others. I often get asked how we end up getting these people in our games, and the answer is pretty simple: we pick up the phone and ask! We might get some people who aren’t interested, but most are really intrigued.

With Neil and Felicia, we got a lot of hesitation at first as they are both often inundated with similar offers. But after we sent over descriptions of their characters and how the game works, they signed on pretty much right away. I had the honor of directing their recording sessions, so I got to ask them why they agreed so quickly, and both of them said the concept just really interested them. Felicia actually has a regular Rock Band night at her house, so this was right up her alley.

Both of them were absolutely fantastic to work with. They’re both so talented and professional with what they do, they were some of the easiest sessions I’ve gotten to direct. I did have an awkward moment with each of them though. I hadn’t told them prior to their recording sessions that the other was in the game. I honestly wasn’t sure if they would think a mini Dr. Horrible reunion was going to be a good idea or not. But after I sheepishly brought it up, they both got a big kick out of it, so that was a relief!

Rock of the Dead is released on Wii, PS3 and X-Box in October.

In non-zombie related news, Neil and the HIMYM cast appeared on a few shows on Monday to promote both season six and also the earlier seasons starting to air in syndication – you can watch Neil & Jason on Good Day NY and Neil, Josh, Cobie and Alyson on Entertainment Tonight.

NPH & Felicia Day rock the dead

By Rach | Published Wed Feb-10-10 -

IGN has a first look at Rock of the Dead, a new Wii game from Epicenter, and it features voice work from Neil, with Felicia Day as his love interest for the game. According to their report, the game is similar to Typing of the Dead, in which zombies are killed using a QWERTY keyboard, but instead you use a Guitar controller (Guitar Hero/Rock Band controller compatible) to strum the bad guys to death.

The game doesn’t feature licensed music in the same vein as Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but it’s definitely music-focused. The team commissioned bands to create “rock” versions of classical music (Public domain, anyone?) and they sound pretty good as a backdrop to the action. According to Epicenter, the team has licensed Rob Zombie/White Zombie tracks for appropriate parts of the action. And I can’t forget to mention that the team commissioned the assistance of Neil Patrick Harris himself for the character lead in Rock of the Dead, who provides the cheesy outer-monologue and one-liners. Felicia Day’s the love interest here (Neil’s partner in crime in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long), and the game’s script was handled by the writer of The Witcher.

NPH lends voice talent to “Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard”

By Hilary | Published Tue Oct-28-08 -

Press Release provided by Games Press:

D3Publisher (D3P) have announced that award-winning Hollywood actors Will Arnett, best known to audiences for his roles on television’s”30 Rock” and “Arrested Development,” and Neil Patrick Harris, currently appearing on television’s “How I Met Your Mother,” will voice the main characters in Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard™. This original third-person shooter with a sense of humour is anticipated for release in Q1 2009 for PLAYSTATIONÂŽ3 and Xbox 360ÂŽvideo game and entertainment system from MicrosoftÂŽ.

In Eat Lead, Will Arnett will bring to life classic 80’s videogame action hero Matt Hazard. Matt gets his chance to prove once and for all that he is the king of shooters when Wallace“Wally” Wellesley, new owner of mega game publisher Marathon Megasoft, voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, gives Matt his comeback role starring in a new next-gen title that pits him against all of his memorable foes from videogames past. In the world of Eat Lead, however, everything stops being a game and becomes reality when players discover through the original storyline brought to life by Arnett’s and Harris’ voiceover that someone is using the new game to bring about Matt’s death once and for all.

Words of Wisdom

“If I don’t win, it’ll be fantastic. I’ve got tons of jokes ready for that. If I do win, I think I have to go do the press gauntlet midshow, and then they’ll cut to me back there saying, ‘Our next two presenters are…’”
- Neil Patrick Harris
