Beastly Premiere & iVillage results announced!

By Rach | Published Sat Feb-26-11 -

Last night was the Los Angeles premiere of Beastly, which opens in the US next Friday, March 4th.We’ve updated the gallery with some Red Carpet photos, and both AfterElton and PopSugar have (different) exclusive clips from the movie that heavily feature Neil. In the modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Neil plays a blind man who is sent to mentor Kyle, the hunky high school hot shot turned grotesque beast.

ETonline spoke to Neil at the premiere:

Neil Patrick Harris also stars in the movie, playing a visually-impaired man. While filming, Harris aided his performance by wearing lenses over his eyes that blocked his vision, and he dished to Frazier about the pranks pulled on him while he couldn’t see.

“Alex would mess with me, ’cause he knew that I couldn’t see him,” said Harris. “He’d always, as I was talking, move to different sides and try to lick my face and stuff.”

Movieweb have up an interview with Neil recorded during filming, and Reelz also has an interview clip featuring Neil, Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens.

You can listen to his recent interview on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show here.

Neil will be appearing on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson next Thursday (March 3rd).

Thanks to all your voting, Neil won the ‘Gay Man We Wish Could Be Our Boyfriend‘ category in the iVillage awards, coming in with 44% of the vote.

Beastly & DDvSB

By Rach | Published Sat Nov-13-10 -

OntheFlix.com has a new Beastly featurette up, with some new clips and a tiny clip from an interview with Neil.

Steven Anderson talked to MySocialBeauty about working as the makeup artist on Dracula’s Daughters vs the Space Brains.

Q: So what was it like working with Neil Patrick Harris?
A: Neil is a very nice guy. He is smart, witty, has lots of energy and is a Pro.

Q: With a film title like Dracula’s Daughters vs. the Space Brains, was it easy decide on Harris’ makeup look?
A: Sure, in this film, Neil looks like a normal guy, until….. so his ‘makeup’ was very simple: Make Neil look like Neil.

Q: Although this was a short film, how often did you have to touchup Harris’ makeup?
A: Neil has great skin; he holds his makeup well and did not require much touch up. I do not like to do excessive touch ups on any project, rather only when necessary.

The Best and the Brightest updates

By Rach | Published Sat Oct-16-10 -

Neil Patrick Harris and Amelia Talbot in 'The Best and the Brightest'

The Best and the Brightest premieres tonight at the Philadelphia Film Festival. Cast members Bonnie Somerville, Jenna Stern, Peter Serafinowicz and John Hodgman will be in attendance, along with writer/director Josh Shelov. The premiere is sold out but there are still tickets available for the screenings on Monday 18th and Sunday 24th.

Set in the world of New York City’s elite private kindergartens, THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST centers on a fresh-faced young couple from Delaware, Jeff (Neil Patrick Harris) and Samantha (Bonnie Somerville), who have only recently moved into town. The comedy centers on the extreme lengths they must go to in order to get their five-year old daughter into school.

Ahead of the premiere, The Best and the Brightest has launched a new website with cast and crew bios, a blog, and the ever-popular “demand a screening” feature. Be sure to log on to bestnbrightestmovie.com and request a screening in your town/nearest city/country.

Here are a couple of snippets of things director Josh Shelov has to say about Neil’s involvement in the movie.

The catalyst was when Amy Sedaris signed on – she’s so brilliant, and is so beloved by other actors, that she acted as a talent magnet. Neil Patrick Harris had heard about Amy’s involvement and was dying to work with her – fortunately he liked the script and signed on. After that everything happened pretty fast – Kate Mulgrew and Christopher McDonald and Bonnie Somerville and Peter Serafinowicz and Bridget Regan and Jenna Stern signed on soon after, and we were off.

Creatively, it’s just a dream working with actors of this caliber. Neil is just incredible – I don’t think he flubbed a syllable during the entire shoot, no lie – and yet he’s always raw and real every time, too. I’m insane about our leading lady, Bonnie Somerville – I think she’s literally perfect as Sam.

If anybody attends the premiere, please get in touch and let us know what you thought!

Neil to direct first feature film

By Rach | Published Thu Oct-14-10 -

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Neil has signed up to direct “Aaron and Sarah”, a romantic comedy with Emma Roberts and Josh Hutcherson currently attached to the lead roles.

Hollywood Renaissance man Neil Patrick Harris is taking on yet another role.

The “How I Met Your Mother” star and Emmy Awards host is planning to make his feature directing debut with the romantic comedy “Aaron and Sarah.” The indie film has also attached Emma Roberts and Josh Hutcherson as its leads.

Written by Chad Gomez Creasey and Dara Resnik Creasey (TV’s “Pushing Daisies”), the story follows a geeky guy and a popular girl who become friends as freshmen in high school and see their relationship deepen through the four years, four proms and one funeral before graduation. The spec, originally titled “B.F.F.,” was purchased by Rogue Pictures several years ago before Fox 2000 picked it up out of turnaround.

David O. Russell, who just signed on to write and direct “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” for Columbia, was on board to direct early last year. “Sydney White” helmer Joe Nussbaum was developing the film before that.

Though the film is no longer set up at Fox, it could be a likely home since the project once resided there. Sandy Stern is producing for Single Cell Pictures along with Beau Bauman and Jesse Israel.

Harris, who is repped by Paradigm and the Booh Schut Co., will next star in CBS Films’ “Beastly” in March and the Columbia family film “The Smurfs” in August. He will also appear once again as a skewed version of himself in a third “Harold & Kumar” movie for Warner Bros.

Roberts, repped by Sweeney Management, is currently in theaters in “It’s Kind of a Funny Story.” She appeared earlier this year in “Valentine’s Day” and “Twelve,” and she has “What’s Wrong With Virginia” and “Scream 4″ hitting theaters in 2011.

Repped by ICM and the Beddingfield Co., Hutcherson most recently starred in the Focus Features comedy “The Kids Are All Right.” He has the MGM remake of “Red Dawn” in the can for release next year, and he is currently shooting the horror film “Detention” before heading to Oahu for the New Line sequel “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.”
