Neil Patrick Harris confirmed for Emmy night role

By Rach | Published Wed Aug-25-10 -

It was announced today that Neil, along with fellow winners from last weekend Betty White, Jeff Probst and John Lithgow will be part of the Emmy ceremony on Sunday. According to HitFix, it’s currently “unclear if Harris, White, Probst and Lithgow will be performers or if they’ll serve some other capacity in Sunday’s Jimmy Fallon-hosted telecast, but their involvement was announced on Wednesday morning at the official unrolling of the Emmy red carpet at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater.”

Neil pulls out of Sketchfest appearance

By Rach | Published Fri Jan-22-10 -

The SF Sketchfest website has been updated with the following:

Due to a previously unforseen engagement out of the country that cannot be rescheduled, Neil Patrick Harris has regretfully canceled his appearance at SF Sketchfest, and has been replaced by Jason Segel.

Neil followed this up with a statement of his own last night:

“I’m so terribly disappointed to be missing SK Sketchfest this year, and I did everything in my power to avoid having to withdraw. I’m a huge fan of the festival, and I love the Bay Area, so needless to say, I can’t wait to come back… assuming San Francisco will still have me! Meanwhile, I managed to wrangle Super A-List Movie Star and Sometimes Nudist Jason Segel to join the show in my stead. He’s great. And single. So if you play your card right, you may just get invited to the “after party”, if you know what I mean…”

Apparently refunds are available, so if you purchased a ticket and no longer wish to attend, get in touch with Sketchfest or the Cobb Comedy Club directly and they should be able to help you out.

Neil Patrick Harris up for Sketchfest challenge

By Rach | Published Tue Jan-12-10 -

A couple of new interviews this morning! Firstly there’s one at the NY Post’s PopWrap, where they spoke to Neil as the culmination of a week of speaking to the HIMYM cast. He talks about HIMYM’s 100th episode and his directing stint, Glee, and when we’re likely to see Doctor Horrible 2, amongst other things!

PW: With tonight’s 100th episode, I have to ask — what’s your favorite?
NPH: It might sound glib, but I think standing on top of a taxi cab in front of 60 people wearing well-tailored suits, spinning around like a rockstar definitely takes the cake. It’s a close race filming on “The Price is Right” soundstage with Bob Barker though. That one made me squeal!

PW: You’re a big “Price is Right” fan from what I’ve read.
NPH: Well, yeah, I mean, everybody thinks they’ll be on “The Price is Right” one day. I was no different than anyone else, but I was an actor on a show, so I did think that precluded me from being chosen by the producers who pick the people to run down the aisle.

Neil has also been talking to the San Francisco Chronicle about his participation in the upcoming SF Sketchfest.

Q: Last year, you told that tragicomic story about your childhood dog Lester, who died and was bagged and kept in a freezer through winter. How are you possibly going to top that this year?
A: I think I’m simply reading from a book for “Celebrity Autobiography.” So I’m really hoping that Mario Lopez has some good stanzas.

Q: You’ve picked your book?
A: Not really. I’m still deciding. Didn’t Hasselhoff come out with a book this year? That would be good. That would be awesome. (Voice gets sinister) And then there’s always Palin …

Janet had two options for me, both of which I was dying to do. She also wanted me to be a guest on “Match Game” – and I will always be a guest on “Match Game” – but the Golden Globes are that weekend. Neither one required a lot of homework on my part. In fact, with “Celebrity Autobiography” I think the less you try to make it a comedy bit, the funnier it is.

Q: Are you going to hang around for other shows?
A: We’re going to hang out for the second weekend, so I think we’ll get to see some stuff. I’m actually looking at the Web site right now. (Harris scans the schedule.) Guest monologuist Moon Zappa. That will be funny … Edie McClurg? … ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic … Dick Cavett’s doing a Marx Brothers thing. That’s fantastic! I may have to skip out on Moon Zappa for Dick Cavett.

Letterman and A Fine Romance

By Rach | Published Wed Aug-19-09 -

There’s a new video online from the Emmy nomination event last week, at Watch With Kristin.

In the first of what I suspect will be many talk show appearances before the Emmys, Neil is slated to appear on Letterman on September 4th.

And finally, along with stars such as Kristin Chenoweth, Amy Adams and Zachary Levi, Neil will be performing at this year’s 5th Annual “A Fine Romance” benefit for the Motion Picture and Television Fund. The evening will once again be hosted by Catherine Zeta-Jones and takes place on November 7th.

Emmy “seatfiller” tickets up for auction

By Rach | Published Thu Jul-16-09 -

HollywoodCharityAuction.com have added some Emmys tickets, if you would like your chance to see Neil do his hosting job in person. The package contains two “seatfiller” positions. “Seat Fillers take the place of award recipients who get up to accept their award. (They have to be interviewed backstage). The camera does not like to see empty seats – hence, a lucky few are screened and allowed to take the seat of celebrities during the broadcast. Sometimes you stay in the same “primo” seat the entire telecast, other times you get to move around, rub elbows with all the celebrities!”

Bidding currently stands at $550 for the pair of tickets. You must be 18 years or over.

The Hollywood Charity Auction is a fundraiser for the Minorities in Broadcasting Training Program; a non profit 501(c)3 organization formed in 1992 to provide training opportunities to minority college graduates in TV/radio news reporting and news management.

Quickfire news

By Rach | Published Thu May-21-09 -

If you’re on Twitter, follow TheTonyAwards (and you can follow us, too!)Β  They’re currently tweeting from an exclusive Tony Awards luncheon with comments from the celebs in attendance. This just in from Neil: “NPH, here. What have I gotten myself into, hosting the Tonys? Cross your fingers for me… Hoping to provide some great good times.”

Neil has donated a tie to an online charity auction for Career Gear. The auction will begin June 5 at 12:01 a.m. and will close on June 14 at 11:59 p.m.

The NY Post has an article on Neil at CBS’s upfront presentation yesterday, which gives a little more detail than this morning’s.

Finally, a Neil has done quick Q&A with the Sudbury Star.

More on the Harris/Burtka Art Exhibition

By Rach | Published Thu May-21-09 -

LA Weekly blogger Gendy Alimurung also attended Neil and David’s exhibition of art, and you can read her article here.

β€œCareful,” he warns when several women move to check out his bookshelves. β€œOne of those cabinets is full of porn.”

A few words on Neil Patrick Harris’ office: Best. Office. Ever. Dark and spooky but kinda silly. It contains an original 1968 plaque from Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, and a Medusa-head lenticular β€œchanging portrait” from the same. A bride doll with a beating red heart glows on the floor.

Neil was at the CBS Upfront presentation in New York yesterday. There are some photos in the gallery, and you can read about his part of the presentation in this article.

“Article 157, a good way for a bro to get a get in the mood at the CBS party is to suddenly mention the dirtiest sounding CBS shows. These include, but are not limited to β€˜The Bing Bang Theory’ and β€˜69 Minutes.’”
